Gujarat Titans batting coach and mentor Gary Kristen came in support of Shubhman Gill after his unimpressive performance as the captain. However, Kristen feels that Shubman Gill has enjoyed the captaincy and has been adopting it quite well.
As the Gujarat Titans are set to face the Chennai Super Kings in a must-win encounter, Kristen extended his support to the young opener, who was appointed as the skipper of the side, replacing Hardik Pandya.
Kristen said, “I think he has enjoyed the captaincy; it’s something that takes time to really master, so I think he enjoyed it this season. He is a world-class player, so I have no doubt that in the next 3 games, he will put in 1-2 good performances.”
Not only as the skipper, but Shubman Gill, the batter, has also been unable to come to the party for his side. In 2023, Shubman Gill was the highest run scorer in the tournament, scoring over 800 runs, but failed to perform as per expectations. In 2024, Shubman Gill has so far scored 322 in 11 matches.
Kristen also feels that the team has also been missing the services of Mohammad Shami, who was ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to an ankle injury.
Talking about the same, Kristen said, “Of course you do miss certain players, someone like Mohammed Shami in the last 2 years, but there are certain kinds of players that are difficult to replace. It takes time to find a feat.”
Today, the Gujarat Titans are facing CSK in a knockout game because if they lose the game, they will be knocked out of the tournament.
