Shreyas Iyer’s Disappointment: Reflecting on KKR’s Thrilling Loss to RR

KKR’s skipper, Shreyas Iyer, had said that this loss against the Rajasthan Royals on the final ball was a bitter pill to swallow.
Rajasthan Royals snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat, courtesy of Jos Buttler, who smashed another phenomenal hundred in the chase.

In his post-match presentation, Shreyas Iyer was completely blank about the loss and was short of words to explain how their team lost the match.

Shreyas Iyer said, “Bitter pill to swallow; emotions were a roller-coaster. I didn’t think this was the situation we’d get into. It’s a funny game, and Rovman was striking well. It is hard to explain what happened; you have to take it on the chin and move on. At this point, you have to see to it that you bowl your best deliveries; a little miss here and there, and you’re sent out of the ground. I’m glad it happened here and not in the latter half of the tournament.”

The KKR skipper was also all praise for Sunil Narine, who had a phenomenal outing with ball and bat, scoring his first 100 in the IPL and picking up two wickets with the ball.

Speaking about Sunil Narine, Shreyas Iyer said, “You need to introspect and come back stronger. Narine is a great asset to the team, showing it in every game when he comes out to bat. That kind of character; glad he’s part of our team.”

Iyer also shared his views about giving Varun Chakravarthy the final over, who was taken on by Jos Buttler in his third over.

Shreyas Iyer said, “Since Buttler was striking it clean, I thought let’s take the pace off and give it to Varun Chakravarthy. He was clean in his hitting as well. Just let it go and sink in; it’s all about relaxing and rejuvenating. We had a tough game; within 2-3 days, it was important that we learn from our mistakes and bounce back strong.”
