Shreyas Iyer gets fined by BCCI for slow over rate

CRIC Informer

Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Punjab Kings, recently faced a fine for his team’s slow bowling rate during an important match against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

This wasn’t the team’s first misstep regarding the over-rate this season. Because it was their second violation of the IPL’s rules on maintaining a minimum over-rate, Iyer was hit with a pretty hefty fine of INR 24 lakhs.

But he wasn’t the only one feeling the pinch. All the players who were part of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, also got fined. Each of them had to pay either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, depending on which amount was smaller.

It’s a bit of a tough lesson for the team, reminding them that keeping up the pace is just as important as making those big plays on the field. They’ll need to tighten things up moving forward to avoid more penalties like this in the future.
