Shreyas Iyer gets fined by BCCI amid PBKS victory, know the reason why

Shreyas Iyer, Captain of Punjab Kings, was fined ₹12 lakh for over slow over from his team during the IPL 2025 match with Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. Although PBKS won the match with great margin, Shreyas was fined for his team not finishing his overs, even adding an extra fielder in the circle before the 19th over and still making Yuzvendra Chahal take an impressive hat-trick.

“The captain of Punjab Kings has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday,” said BCCI in a statement. As it was their first offense for the entire season, Iyer’s punishment was ₹12 lakh.

Shreyas made a great contribution with a strong fifty, helping his team to a fourth-wicket win over CSK. He alone made 72 runs off 41 balls, and opener Prabhsimran Singh added 54 runs as they achieved the target of 191 runs in 19.4 overs. Sam Curran’s 88 helped CSK set a decent target, but it was Chahal who stole the limelight with his four wickets, including a hat-trick. Curran was well-supported by Dewald Brevis, who finished with 32 runs. Chahal was certainly the best PBKS bowler, while Marco Jansen took a couple of wickets too.
