Shreyas Iyer is not very fond of unsolicited advice about his batting, especially with regard to his perceived thorn against short-pitched deliveries. He says that it annoys him when people who haven’t faced express pace tell him how to counter it.
Yet, the India middle-order batter does concede others also have their right to opinion on that, and amongst themselves can keep that discussion.
“Those who haven’t faced 150 kilometers per hour deliveries, telling you to play in a certain way are irritating,” Iyer told The Indian Express. “But again, I would say, that’s their opinion. They have every right to talk, but they can do that amongst themselves, not in front of a player.”
Iyer played superbly in the 2023 ODI World Cup, scoring 530 runs in 11 innings at an average of 66.25. This included two centuries.
While this performance should have taken Iyer’s cricketing career to another level, the BCCI had to make peace with the fact that the batting sensation could not turn up for Mumbai in a domestic match and was subsequently dropped from their annual contracts list.
Iyer says he’s been using videos to lift his game.
“Yes, I’ve seen all those YouTube videos, basically trying to get the shoulder and hip separation, and that has helped a lot in power hitting. It is very important, especially at T20 level where you can switch modes and accelerate at any stage,” he said.
Shreyas Iyer was picked by Punjab kings in the mega auction at a massive amount of 26.75 becoming the second most costliest player in the history of the IPL.
Shreyas Iyer has also been picked for the ICC champions trophy and will be one of the batters to look for in the marquee tournament.
