After two continuous back-to-back defeats in the World Test Championship final, Team India and BCCI are looking for another option for the skipper. Rohit Sharma has done his best as captain but he has failed in the knockout games. India has too many options for captaincy in limited-over cricket but when it comes to Test Cricket, there are a few options out of which Shreyas Iyer is a name.
However, the former Indian opener and one of the most renowned commentators Aakash Chopra has a different opinion for Shreyas Iyer. Chopra said that the middle-order batter has a lot of things to prove in the longest format of the game and he needs to improve his game.
Iyer is not part of the upcoming West Indies tour in any of the formats or squads. The KKR Skipper has missed the IPL 2023 due to his back injury and there is still no clarity on his fitness or comeback.
While giving his opinion on Shreyas Iyer being India’s next Test Captain, Aakash Chopra said”Shreyas Iyer – good player, scored a century on debut against New Zealand and scored runs in the second innings as well. But Shreyas Iyer, the Test batter, still has a lot to prove in my opinion.”
Aakash Chopra appreciated Shreya Iyer’s ability to play the spin very well but he said that the KKR captain needed to improve his game against fast bowling and shot-pitch deliveries.
“He played very well in Bangladesh also. He plays spin extremely well, there is no doubt about that. However, there are two things that might define his career – his game against the short ball and second against the moving ball – when the ball is pitched up and it swings and the other is the bouncer.”
