Shikhar Dhawan Will Play 2023 ODI World Cup Or Not? Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar Gives A Huge Statement

During the announcement of India’s squad for the 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka on Monday, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar talks about the comeback of KL Rahul. Agarkar, along with captain Rohit Sharma, announced a 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. Agarkar mentioned that the former vice-captain, Rahul is making a comeback to the team as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Despite being included in India’s squad for the Asia Cup tournament, KL Rahul is still dealing with a minor injury. Former Indian cricketer Agarkar further explained that wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been included in the squad as a backup opener. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is set to travel to Sri Lanka as India’s reserve player. While having an interaction with media, Agarkar also discussed the future of veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan.

“Rohit is not a bad player, Shubman has had a phenomenal year. Ishan Kishan (is another one). Shikhar has been a terrific player for India. At the moment three guys are doing well and you can fit only 15. Unfortunately, someone has to fit. At the moment these are our preferred openers,” Agarkar said.

Shikhar Dhawan has captained the second string team in the ODIs for some international tours. However, his companion Shubman Gill played some sensational knocks against West Indies and some other series. Dhawan played his last International match for India in 2022 against Bangladesh.
