The Delhi Capitals picked up a point from their rain-soaked match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025, since the second innings was completely washed out on Monday. Led by Axar Patel, the team is probably relieved to snag a point in a game where they struggled from the get-go. Fans were caught off guard when DC chose to open with Karun Nair and Faf du Plessis. Nair got out on the very first ball, leaving the team regretting that decision right away.
Shane Watson, a former all-rounder for Chennai Super Kings, expressed his confusion over DC’s choice to mix up their opening lineup yet again. Five different players have now opened for Delhi this season, including KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis, Abhishek Porel, and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
“I couldn’t believe they switched things up like that for no clear reason. I almost fell off my chair when I saw Nair walking out to open with Faf. It just didn’t make any sense,” Watson said while commenting on Star Sports.
He believes there’s a lot of overthinking happening in the Delhi camp. He also pointed out the unclear roles within the team, especially after the risky decision to send Nair out against SRH that backfired.
“They really messed that one up. When you keep changing things around like that, it shows there’s no solid plan. Even if the players aren’t consciously second-guessing themselves, moves like these can make them start to doubt their roles,” he added.
Right now, Delhi sits 5th on the points table with 6 wins in 11 matches. With 13 points, they need to win 2 out of their last 3 games to secure a place in the playoffs.
