India pace spearhead Mohammed Shami has confessed that having all of their Champions Trophy games at one site in Dubai has worked to their advantage. On Tuesday in Dubai, Shami brought back numbers of 3-48 to prepare India’s four-wicket victory over Australia in the semi-final. After lashing out at detractors who argue it is unjust to play at the same Dubai International Cricket Stadium every time, India coach Gautam Gambhir
India declined to go to host Pakistan over political issues and have taken all four of their games at their provisional home.
Again in Dubai on Sunday, they will meet South Africa or New Zealand in the final.
Meanwhile, the other seven teams in the ODI competition have had to fly back and forth between three Pakistan metropoles and the United Arab Emirates.
After his vital part in defeating Australia, Shami said Tuesday, “It absolutely helped us since we know the behavior of the track and the conditions.”
“That you are performing every game at one location is a good thing.”
South Africa had to fly to Dubai and then less than 24 hours later back to Pakistan once more without a match, as part of the tournament’s hybrid format.
India is unbeaten in their ten Dubai ODIs and have won nine of them.
Bowling fast and accurately, Shami, 34, took five wickets in India&’s first match against Bangladesh.
Shami was begging cricket officials to enable use of spit to clean the ball in the 50-over format, but a query on reverse swing with the old ball did rise.
Introduced during the Covid outbreak, the International Cricket Council prohibited saliva in 2022 indefinitely.
Shami told reporters, “We are trying to reverse, but you are not getting the use of saliva into the game. With the other swing, we are always petitioning the allowed saliva and it is engaging.
Fast bowlers can turn the leather ball late by using saliva to polish one side of the old ball while keeping the other rough; this can be a deadly weapon in the last few overs of a One-Day International match.
They still sweat. Shami departed the field briefly in the triumph over Pakistan following a good beginning to the competition.
Two games in three days and bowling all 10 overs against Australia have finally put to rest all concerns of any fitness problems.
Shami stated, “I am trying to find my rhythm and give more for the team.”
He also said, “I am ready to bowl long spells.”;
Gambhir called Shami a world-class performance.
“Those results are why you see them: he is outstanding, driven, and hungry.”
