PCB have reportedly gone back to Babar Azam for captaining Pakistan in white ball format once again. This will also mark the end of Shaheen Afridi’s tenure as skipper of Pakistan.
Babar Azam steeped down from captaincy after the team’s disastrous performance in the 2023 World Cup.
As per the latest buzz, PCB has offered Babar Azam to captain Pakistan in white ball format, i.e., both Odi and T-20. On the other hand, the star Pakistani batter wants to lead the team in all three formats.
Babar Azam was replaced by Shaheen Afridi as the new T-20 captain of Pakistan, while Shan Masood was named as the new test skipper for Pakistan in test matches, replacing Babar Azam.
However, an official Odi captain is still not being announced from Pakistan.
Shaheen’s captaincy role was in doubt when PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi had earlier said, “Even I don’t know who the captain will be. Whether Shaheen continues or a new captain comes in will be determined after the fitness camp (starting on Monday). There are a number of technical factors we will consider, the details of which I do not want to go into. We want a long-term solution, whether it’s Shaheen or a new man. And then we intend to stick by that man instead of just changing a captain just because you lose a match or captain.”
As per reports, Babar Azam is set to lead Pakistan in the upcoming five-match T-20 series against the Black Caps.
