Rajasthan Royals’ captain and star wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson, might miss the rest of IPL 2025. According to Sportstar, the 30-year-old cricketer from Kerala has had some scans done, and whether he can play again this season depends on the results.
Samson, who’s the top run scorer for RR in IPL history, was kept on the team for Rs 18 crore before the big IPL auction. He played only as a batter in the first three games of this season. Unfortunately, in the match against Delhi Capitals, he injured himself and had to retire hurt during the sixth over. He didn’t bat in the super over, and the team ended up losing.
If he can’t play, it will be a tough blow for the team that won the tournament in its first season. They are set to face the Delhi Capitals again on April 19 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, so it’ll be interesting to see if Samson will be ready to play.
If he’s out, Riyan Parag will likely take over as captain. Parag had already led the team in the first few matches when Samson played as an impact player. So far in IPL 2025, Samson has played in all seven games, scoring 224 runs, including one half-century. In the opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he scored 66 runs off 37 balls. In the following matches, he managed 13 against Kolkata Knight Riders, 20 against Chennai Super Kings, 38 against Punjab Kings, 41 against Gujarat Titans, 15 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and an unbeaten 31 against Delhi Capitals.
