Sanju Samson, a new player acquired by CSK from the Rajasthan Royals, has already been given a new position in the Yellow team. Another official from Kerala has now also joined the CSK team soon after his appointment.
Last season in the IPL, the Chennai Super Kings came last, and they wanted to do a lot of reshuffling in their main lineup. One of the most significant alterations was that Ravindra Jadeja was released, and Matheesha Pathirana was also dropped from the roster.
The CSK squad made a trade with the Rajasthan Royals, taking in Sanju Samson along with the all-rounder of the trade, veteran Ravindra Jadeja. Samson was a much-anticipated wicket-keeper batter for the running and for the long-term batting position at CSK.
KCL scout joins CSK after the inclusion of Sanju Samson
The signing of Sanju Samson sparked many debates within the CSK camp and among the franchise’s supporters. Probably the most significant doubt was raised whether the captaincy would go to Samson while Ruturaj Gaikwad would be sidelined.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the captain of Chennai Super Kings but has not played a full season, as his campaigns have been plagued by injury setbacks. However, the CSK management has not hinted at any presidential change following the Super Kings’ decision.
Currently, a player scout Robert Fernandez, who was part of Sanju Samson’s Kerala Cricket League team, the Kochi Blue Tigers, has been appointed as the new talent scout for CSK and has joined the Chennai Super Kings. He was with the team that had won the KCL this season.
CSK is most likely to target experienced spinners in the mega-auction
The Chennai Super Kings have released all of their past spinners. Riveting Jadeja (traded) and Ravichandran Ashwin (retired). They have only kept the best bowler of the last season, Noor Ahmed, along with them.
Nevertheless, playing in Chepauk, their home ground, the Super Kings have been used to fielding so many spinners in the XI as they can get. Therefore, it has come to notice that CSK are considering the likes of spinners namely Vignesh Puthur and Karn Sharma, as they have already got a shortage of spinners.
Puthur was one of the bowlers who got noticed during the game against CSK, while he was playing for the Mumbai Indians last season. Ravi Bishnoi is still the best spinner in the tournament and therefore will attract a big bid with CSK, SRH, and RCB being the possible bidders.
IPL 2026 might be the last season of MS Dhoni at CSK
Ever since MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, there was a lot of speculation regarding his final season in the IPL which eventually became a hot topic on social media just before the IPL season. MS Dhoni has been part of the CSK team since IPL 2008, the very first season, when he signed the first-ever contract for the Super Kings.
MS Dhoni has participated in all of the seasons since 2020 and even led them to the titles respective to 2021 and 2023, which marked the 4th and 5th IPL titles for Dhoni, respectively. The CSK management had tried giving the captaincy to Jadeja, but after a series of losses, Dhoni came back into the picture.
Meanwhile, for 2 seasons now, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Maharashtra captain, has been given the CSK captaincy and is likely to continue with no new news regarding Sanju Samson. According to unofficial reports, this will be the last season that MS Dhoni will play with CSK.
