Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer, suggested that the team’s leaders should choose between Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj for the second Test against England.
In the first game, Prasidh and Siraj had trouble getting wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful fast bowler. Given that Bumrah might not play in the next game, Manjrekar encouraged Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir to make difficult choices about which players to select. He mentioned that Prasidh seemed like the better bowler at the time, which is why he would pick him over Siraj.
Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo that since Siraj is the more experienced bowler, it would be a difficult choice. He gave it his all and bowled well at Headingley. However, one must consider the current situation.
Manjrekar said that near the end of the Test match, Prasidh Krishna seemed more likely to get wickets for Shubman Gill. Because of this, he might go with Prasidh Krishna. He knows it will be a tough decision, but it is based on how well Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna are currently playing, and it will help him be more cost-effective.
There has also been discussion of Kuldeep Yadav possibly playing in the second Test, and Manjrekar stated that the team’s leaders should not only choose seamers due to the common belief that English pitches favour them. He said that Nitish Kumar Reddy should take Shardul Thakur’s place.
Manjrekar said that they should not play seamers just because they are in a country where seam bowling is common. He would replace a seamer with Kuldeep Yadav and Nitish Reddy with Shardul Thakur.
