Australia beat India in the third test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by 9 wickets. The match was played in Indore and the visitors performed brilliantly on a spin track that was nearly unplayable. With this win, the series stands 2-1 in favor of India, with Australia now its confirmed seat in the final of ICC Test Championship finale.
A few decisions made by the team management have drawn criticism during India’s batting in the latest Test, with the promotion of Ravindra Jadeja over Shreyas Iyer being the most notable. Iyer is a proper batsman who plays well against spin, but in both innings, Jadeja came out to bat at No. 5 before him.
Sanjay Manjrekar, the former Indian batter, has criticized Indian skipper Rohit for his ‘senseless’ approach and has criticized India’s choice to hold Iyer and send Jadeja ahead of him.
Speaking to star sports, Sanjay Manjrekar raised his finger over the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and said, “It has just disappointed me in the past and this innings as well that Jadeja came ahead of Shreyas Iyer. You can’t be doing that for left-right combination. You’ve got a proper batter…even if he is a right hander. And Jadeja coming in as a left-hander…I can understand when you have 2-3 left-arm spinners like Bangladesh used to have in the past. Here you have two quality off-spinners bowling. It did not make any sense to me. Iyer has a great feel for spinners so you want him ahead in the line-up. And he has shown his class.”
In the Indore Test, India’s decision to send Jadeja over Iyer flopped when in both innings the top-ranked Test all-rounder was dismissed after scoring 4 and 7 runs, respectively.
The fourth test match between both teams will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad from 9th March.
