Sanjay Manjrekar rips apart Ravindra Jadeja for his flop show against England

The Indian team lost their first Test against England by 5 wickets in the series of five. Ravindra Jadeja, the team’s only spinner, managed just one wicket in the whole match, leading to questions about how he performed in the English conditions. Other bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur had better numbers than Jadeja, who is the most experienced bowler on the team.

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who has been tough on Jadeja before, didn’t hold back in his criticism of the spinner for not making the most of the Day 5 pitch. He pointed out that the pitch didn’t really help India’s seam bowlers either. Even Bumrah struggled to find his rhythm. Manjrekar noted that Ben Duckett has an excellent record against both Bumrah and Jadeja, making it tough for the Indian bowlers.

In the two innings, young bowler Prasidh Krishna let a lot of runs go at over 6 an over, sparking conversations about his performance. Manjrekar, however, felt it wasn’t fair to judge Krishna too harshly at this early stage in his Test career. He said, “It’s not right to be too hard on young players like Krishna. Sure, there are things to work on, but Jadeja needs to step up. This was a Day 5 pitch where he should have done better, especially against experienced batters like Stokes and Duckett. Jadeja should have used the rough more against Duckett, especially knowing the situation. I expected more from him, quite honestly.”
