Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar sees Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal being India’s future Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in ODI cricket. While Gill became vice-captain of India for three ODIs against England and an ICC Champions Trophy after January 18, he stands at No. 3 on the ICC ODI batter rankings. He made his debut for India against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton on January 31, 2019, playing 47 matches and amassing 2328 runs. Jaiswal is yet to make his ODI debut but has made a big impression through his performances in 19 Tests and 23 T20Is he has played so far.
Southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal is also there in the list of 15 Indian cricketers for the England series at home along with the Champions Trophy in June, which gives him an opportunity to make his debut in the 50-over format next month.
In a discussion on Star Sports, Manjrekar, acting like an expert, was asked who he thinks could be the next batsman to take on a glaring role in India, 10 years on from now.
“I think White Balls will continue for Shubman Gill. He has already brought two-Double 200s.
Although we have not got glimpses of Yashasvi in ODIs so far. However, he has entered the Test Circuit. But he has the opportunity to capture that world. The opportunity is available, and if he gets it, he will be able to grab it,” said Manjrekar.
