The former batting coach of India, Sanjay Bangar, simply could not stop appreciating Vaibhav Suryavanshi after he played a brilliant knock against the Gujarat Titans. The 14-year-old Vaibhav scored an impressive 101 runs off only 38 balls as he helped the Rajasthan Royals chase down that target to victory by eight wickets in the IPL 2025 match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday. Less than a week after being the youngest player to debut in IPL, he produced several records through that incredible century. It took him just 35 balls to achieve it, making it the fastest century by an Indian in the history of IPL and the second-fastest ever by just five balls after Chris Gayle’s epic innings in 2013. Moreover, with this record, he became the youngest-ever player to hit a century in both IPL and T20 cricket overall at the age of 14 years and 32 days.
“I never thought I’d see a performance such as this, much less have it affect me so much. We had Sachin Tendulkar at 14 to 15, but he went through a lot of first-class cricket before he stepped up for the national team. Parthiv Patel comes without any first-class cricket and saves a Test match for India, but this is something much more,” Bangar said.
“This is T20 cricket, a fearless 14-year-old taking on Rashid Khan, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. Chasing a target of around 210, he just kept going, especially leg side, but some amazing shots on the off side. The six he hit off Prasidh Krishna’s slower ball while completely on the back foot was just unreal,” he added.
Vaibhav went on to reach his fifty in 17 balls, smashing Washington Sundar with a pair of sixes and a four in one over. That was the fastest fifty of IPL 2025. He then brought up his century with a classic maximum off Rashid Khan but was soon afterwards dismissed by Prasidh Krishna.
Bangar reflected on how Vaibhav’s feat will impact many people. “I loved his celebration – just a simple salute-like gesture with the bat, as if he was saying, ‘Keep me in your prayers.’ That’s some cool confidence. I’m really glad he hit this milestone so young. It makes my imagination go wild at the thought of how proud his family, coaches, and all the people supporting him must feel.
Coming from Bihar, this moment will inspire many young players to wake up early to practice. His achievement will leave a mark that stays in their memory for a long time,” he said.
