Former Indian captain Kapil Dev is known for his bold, true, and honest statements on Cricket and its other aspects. Recently, the former all-rounder has marked a player whom he thinks is above Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Vivian Richards. Kapil Dev has termed him as a ‘Once In A Century’ batter.
The cricketer for whom Kapil Dev is talking is none other than a star Indian middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav, who is playing some unreal cricket since his debut in T20I.
Kapil’s statement came after the thunderous century by Suryakumar Yadav against Sri Lanka. In the third T20I against Sri Lanka, Suryakumar played one of the finest knocks of his T20 career and scored 112 runs in just 55 balls.
Speaking to ABP news, Kapil Dev said, “Sometimes I am at a loss of words on how to describe his knock. When we see Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, we feel that someday there will be a player who will compel us to think he is also part of that list. There is indeed a lot of talent in India. And the kind of cricket he plays, that lap shot the one over fine leg, then that leaves the bowler frightened because he can stand and hit a six over mid-on and mid-wicket. That is what makes it difficult for the bowlers because he can pick the line and length consistently.”
Speaking about his approach and mindset while batting, Kapil Dev said that he has not seen such a clean striker of the ball.
Kapil Dev said, “I have seen great batters like De Villiers, Vivian Richards, Sachin, Virat, and Ricky Ponting, but very few can hit the ball as cleanly as him. Hats off to Suryakumar Yadav. This kind of player comes only once in a century.”
