SA vs ENG: Senior Players To Leave SA20 League As South Africa Announce 16-Member ODI Squad For England Series

A 16-member ODI squad of South Africa has been announced for the forthcoming three-match series against England. The series will start on January 27. Temba Bavuma will continue as the team’s regular captain, and all-rounder Sisanda Magala will also be there along with Marco Jansen.

Rob Walter, the newly appointed white-ball team coach will begin his contract on February 1 after working for the past seven years in New Zealand. Shukri Conrad, who was recently chosen red-ball coach, will be in charge of the series. The Proteas will need to win this series to gain points toward their goal of making it to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023.

The teams faced off in a three-game series in July last year in England, which resulted in a tie after the final game in Leeds was postponed due to bad weather. While England faced Australia in November 2022 and lost the series 0-3, this will be South Africa’s first ODI match since their 2-1 loss to India in October last year.

Several South African athletes are now competing in their six-team inaugural SA20 league, which began on January 10. Many of the team’s senior players, including Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, and David Miller, will leave their respective franchises to serve their country again.
