Rohit Sharma’s ‘6 Words’ Praise For Ishan Kishan After His Brilliant 200 Against Bangladesh

Ishan Kishan has been welcomed to the exclusive club of batters with double centuries to their name in ODIs by Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has three of them to his credit. Sharma did this by posting a photo of Kishan from his Instagram account. Ishan, 24, made history on Saturday (December 10) by being the fourth hitter from India and the seventh batter overall to achieve a double hundred in men’s ODI matches. The left-handed hitter was selected for the playing XI for the third game against Bangladesh in Chattogram instead of the injured Rohit Sharma, and he made the most of it by turning his first ODI century into a double hundred.

The young batsman scored his maiden 100 runs in just 85 balls, and on the 126th ball he faced, he reached his double century. The 2021 T20 World Cup participant and Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper, who made his limited-overs debut for India last year and featured in both tournaments, faced a total of 131 deliveries during the game and finished with 210 runs thanks to 24 fours and 10 sixes.

His joint-fifth-highest individual score in 50-over contests is his career-best ODI score. The record for most runs in a single ODI inning is held by Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has three double-hundreds in 235 ODIs to date. In 2014 at the Eden Gardens against Sri Lanka, he earned 264 points. Martin Guptill of New Zealand (237*), Virender Sehwag of India (219), Chris Gayle of the West Indies (215 not out), and Pakistan’s opener Fakhar Zaman follow (210 not out).

Ishan is the fastest in terms of balls faced and the youngest batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs. By getting there in just 126 balls, he beat Gayle’s previous best of 138 balls. And a day after Ishan became part of the elite list of batters to score a double century in an ODI, Rohit posted a photo of him during the match on Instagram with the caption, “Ye club ka Mazza alag hai.”

In addition to being Ishan’s teammate and captain for the Indian squad, Rohit also serves as the captain of Kishan’s Mumbai Indians IPL franchise. Under Rohit’s leadership, the young player joined the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 auctions and helped the team win two consecutive championships in 2019 and 2020. He was re-signed by the franchise in the 2022 mega auction for a record sum of Rs 15.25 crore.
