Rohit Sharma to retire from international cricket after… Reports make a huge claim

After the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma made a statement that made the whole country happy. People were wondering about his future, but Rohit put those worries to rest in his classic style, saying, I’m not retiring from this format. Just so there are no more rumors going around. I don’t have any future plans, whatever is happening will keep happening. This statement after the Champions Trophy 2025 final quickly spread everywhere.

The next day, Rohit talked more about what he plans to do with his career. He said, Right now, I’m just dealing with things as they come. It wouldn’t be right for me to think too far ahead. I’m focusing on playing well and staying positive. I don’t want to make any promises about whether I will or won’t play in the 2027 World Cup.

He added, There’s no reason to say anything like that right now. I’ve always taken my career one step at a time.

But, according to a report, Rohit Sharma may already be planning to keep playing until the 2027 World Cup. The report in Cricbuzz said, If everything goes as planned, he might retire from international cricket after that big ICC event in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Rohit Sharma will be 38 in a couple of months, so he’ll be 40 by the time the 2027 ODI World Cup starts.

The report also said that Rohit will work with Abhishek Nayar, who is currently the assistant coach of the Indian cricket team. They’ll mainly focus on ‘fitness, batting, and strategy.’

From 2025 to the 2027 World Cup, India is expected to play 27 ODIs. They might schedule more later. Rohit Sharma will use these games to get ready for the big event.

Nayar is a coach that Indian cricketers really respect. Guys like Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul have praised his methods. He used to play with Rohit Sharma.

The report also mentioned that it’s still unclear what he’ll do with Test matches. Rohit Sharma didn’t play very well in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The report said that his performance in the IPL will be key in deciding if he’ll be chosen for the India tour of England in June. A source said, Let’s wait for the IPL to end. Only someone who can see the future would know what’s going to happen.

The Indian captain wants to play in both ODI and Test formats. He has already retired from T20Is.
