Rohit Sharma strengthens Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy initiative

Mumbai’s first match in the VHT 2025-26 tournament is on December 24, and they will be playing in Elite Group C with all their group-stage matches in Jaipur. They will start the tournament against Sikkim and the other teams in the group are Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Goa.

The most important point to discuss in the Mumbai team is the coming of Rohit Sharma, who will be able to play only for two games according to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The presence of Rohit, along with Virat Kohli’s inclusion in Delhi’s squad, has made the tournament a lot more attractive and a ‘must-watch’ event.

Mumbai squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26

Shardul Thakur (c), Rohit Sharma (available for 2 matches), Ishan Mulchandani, Musheer Khan, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Sarfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad, Chinmay Sutar, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Tushar Deshpande, Onkar Tarmale, Sylvester Dsouza, Sairaj Patil, and Suryansh Shedge.

The very first spot of the lineup has been taken by Ishan Mulchandani, and now he has a maiden call-up. Additionally, the batting division possesses a solid youth core, consisting of Sarfaraz Khan, who had great success in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Besides Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Musheer Khan, and another fresh face in the batting department, Chinmay Sutar, Mumbai’s strength in depth is further fortified while Siddhesh Lad still proves to be the experienced mainstay of the middle order. Importantly, veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane has been rested for the group stage due to hamstring problems.

The bowling department sees the newcomer acquired by SRH during the auction, Onkar Tarmale, making his debut, and he will be part of the pacers alongside skipper Shardul and Tushar Deshpande. Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian as spin options provide exceptional all-around value, whereas Suryansh Shedge, who is a big hitter, is also there in case of late-order firepower.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was treated by the hospital recently after suffering from acute gastroenteritis, is not in the initial team, but he might be called later when he is completely fit. Besides him, other Indian internationals like Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube might also join the squad when they become available.
