Rohit Sharma pays tribute to the late Ratan Tata

The Indian team captain Rohit Sharma expressed his condolences on the passing of Ratan Tata, the prominent business figure in India. The businessmen and philanthropist Ratan Tata died late in a hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday. Ratan Tata, who has received the prestigious honour of Padma Vibhushan, was admitted to the hospital in the intensive care unit on Monday.

Rohit posted on his social media account to pay his last respects to Tatas.

“A man with a heart of gold. Sir, you will always be in our hearts for you cared the most and led your life in bettering everyone else’s,” Wrote Rohit in social media platform X

The first announcement of his passing was made by a senior officer of the Mumbai police. This was followed by a statement from the chairman of Tata Group, who also confirmed the news. N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Group, remembered Tata as ‘a truly rare leader whose priceless service has helped build not only the Tata Group but even the country itself’.

Expressing his grief at the demise, he said, ‘Mr. Ratan Naval Tata shall be remembered for his unmatched leadership who has left a mark far beyond the boundaries of the Tata Group.’, said Chandrasekaran in a statement that was released quite late at night.

Born in New York and alumni of Cornell University, this experienced businessman worked in the family designed enterprise back, after he moved to India in 1962. He worked in various companies within the Tata Group before an appointment as a central managing director in 1971 of the National Radio and Electronics Co. which was a part of Tata’s business ventures.

Degreed as chairman of the subsidiary company of Tata in 1981, he succeeded in 1991 to the post of chairman of the Tata Sons company, which had been led by his uncle J.R.D. for over 50 years. In this capacity, the conglomerate commenced what it refers to as a grand strategy of growth, acquiring notable British corporations including the steel manufacturer Corus and the luxury car brand Jaguar Land Rover.

It now boasts of over two and half a dozen incorporated entities that manufacture drinks, automobiles, saline, computer programs, iron, electricity, operate airports, and launched the country’s pioneering multi-purpose application. In recent times it has also entered the market for chips and is based on increasing the production capacity for iPhones. The group posted a revenue of USD 165 billion for the previous financial year.
