Rohit Sharma, captain of the Indian cricket team, spoke on behalf of the team management against fans watching them during net sessions during the ongoing Test series with Australia. He clarified that the practice sessions are entirely private and that no form of public interference is welcome after the second Test match in Adelaide. Before the pink-ball Test, the Indian practice was open to the public but turned chaotic when some players had to hear the kind of comments that were not sensitive to them.
“You know, the net sessions are very private, and this was the first time ever I saw so many people during the nets. And when you’re training, when you’re practising, there are a lot of conversation that happens, and those conversations are very private. We don’t want anyone to hear those conversations. It is as simple as that because there’s a lot of planning,” Rohit said in the press conference.
Rohit even joked that if the fans are interested in watching them, they can come during the Tests.
“There is a lot of talking that happens. And the crowds are very close to that practice facility. There are five days of Test cricket. They can come and watch us there,” he said.
After comprehensively beating India in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval by ten wickets, the series has returned to one apiece in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As a result, Australia climbs to the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings for the 2023 to 2025 cycle.
The side captained by Pat Cummins has had a points percentage of 60.71, enough to surpass both South Africa and India in the championship table, with the victory at Adelaide being their ninth in the ongoing cycle.
At the same time, the heavy loss has seen Rohit Sharma’s team slipping to number three in the order, as the points percentage drops from 61.11 after a 295-run win in Perth to 57.29.
To improve its chances of making it to the WTC final for the third consecutive time next year, which will be hosted at Lord’s, India now has to win all remaining three Tests against Australia in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
