Taking revenge against Pakistan seems to have opened a chapter of glory for India in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. To be specific, the two sides battled it out in the fifth game of the tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 23, where Pakistan, coming in after their first loss of the tournament, were eager to win, but the Men in Green could not deliver.
After electing to bat first, Pakistan posted a total of 241 in the first inning of the game. Chasing the target, the Men in Blue displayed some good cricket, crowned with a century from Virat Kohli, to put the final nail in the coffin of their arch-rival.
The win, however, was euphoric for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The veteran batter recorded a fantastic personal milestone while India was on top against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy. Interestingly, the captaincy win over Pakistan marked Rohit Sharma’s 39th win out of 53 matches.
His 39th win as skipper brings him on par with the great former India cricketer Kapil Dev, who registered 39 wins out of 74 matches as skipper. With two wins out of two so far in the Champions Trophy, the Men in Blue will look to make it three wins in a row in the tournament, thereby making Rohit the record-holder for most wins as captain.
Interestingly, India takes on New Zealand in the 12th game of the tournament with the two teams clashing at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 2. With two matches already won, Team India has one foot in the semi-finals of the tournament; however, a win against the Black Caps will cement their spot in the knock-outs.
