Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to return in August as India in talks with SRI Lanka to play white ball series

After BCCI decided to postpone India’s trip to Bangladesh for white ball matches next month, India Today learned that at least two cricket boards, one of them Sri Lanka, have suggested a short series to replace it.

India was to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in Bangladesh in August. Now that series is planned for September 2026. Because of this delay, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has suggested the same series, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, in Sri Lanka.

This means former India captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have both stopped playing Tests and T20Is, could play for India again.

A source said they have had a few requests and are thinking what to do. Some boards don’t have any matches planned then and want to play India during that time.

BCCI is not happy with the next Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting venue. It is on July 24 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. BCCI has asked for the venue to be changed and might not go if it stays the same.

A source said because of what is happening in Bangladesh politically it’s not right to travel there. They told the ACC that the meeting should be moved.

About the Asia Cup, BCCI will likely ask the Indian government for advice on whether to hold the tournament in the UAE.

Asia Cup is to start on September 5 and India and Pakistan are to play on September 7.

A source said the suggestion to play Asia Cup in the UAE was made before the Pahalgam attack. Situation is different now so they will do what the government says.

This year’s Asia Cup will be T20 format to get ready for T20 World Cup. India will host it early next year .

Indian government has recently given visas to Pakistan hockey team to come to India for FIH Men’s Junior World Cup.

Unlike cricket, hockey is an Olympic sport, so if visas were denied there could have been penalties from the sport’s world body.
