Rohit Sharma achieves this elusive feat in ODI cricket

Rohit Sharma is the second-fastest player to score 11K runs in ODIs. The Indian captain achieved the landmark during India’s encounter against the Bangladesh team on Thursday, February 20, hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Rohit reached 11,000 runs in ODIs in his 261st innings, meanwhile, Virat Kohli managed it in his 222nd, while the legendary Sachin Tendulkar took 276 innings to achieve the feat.

Fastest to 11K runs in ODIs

Virat Kohli – 222 innings (2019 against Pakistan, Manchester)

Rohit Sharma – 261 innings (2025 against Bangladesh, Dubai)

Sachin Tendulkar – 276 innings (2002 against England, Kanpur)

Ricky Ponting – 286 innings (2008 against India, Sydney)

The 37-year-old Rohit needed just 12 runs to get to this landmark and finished with a boundary off Mustafizur Rahman in the fourth over of India’s run-chase. The pitch was perfect for that ball from Mustafizur. Rohit didn’t quite time it right, however. Rohit opened the batting with Shubman Gill after Bangladesh opted to bat and set India a target of 229 to chase.

Before the Champions Trophy, questions arose regarding his form, especially after the Border Gavaskar Trophy on Australian soil. But the Indian captain was right back on the saddle, bringing up a sparkling century in the second ODI of the three-match series against England. At the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Rohit made sure to knock a century off 76 balls.

Rohit made 119 runs off 90 balls with 12 fours and seven sixes, as India chased down a target of 305 with 33 balls to spare. On the tour of Australia, Rohit got into double digits once, but found his mojo in the series against the Lions and in one tour, gave India relief ahead of the Champions Trophy.
