Ravichandran Ashwin expressed the emotional impact he felt witnessing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in tears after India’s loss to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final.
Although the Men in Blue secured victories in all 10 matches leading up to the final, they faced a setback on the crucial day against the Australians. While batting first in the match, team India scored a total of 240 runs, Australia reached the target with five wickets in hand.
While speaking to S Badrinath on his YouTube channel, R Ashwin revealed how Virat Kohli and R Ashwin reacted after the loss against Australia.
“Yes, we felt the pain. Rohit and Virat were crying. Seeing that it felt bad. Anyways, not meant to be. This team was experienced. Everybody knew what to do. And then, it was professional. Everybody knew their routines and warm-ups. I think two natural leaders gave the team the space to do these two ( Kohli and Rohit) and created a vibe,” said Ashwin.
R Ashwin also praised the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for his efforts and his capabilities to understand the potential of players.
The veteran off-spinner said, “If you look at Indian cricket, everybody will tell you MS Dhoni is one of the best captains. Rohit Sharma is an outstanding person. He understands every single person in the team, he knows what each one of us likes and dislikes. He has a great understanding. He puts in the effort to know each member personally.”
