Robbin Uthappa slams Rajasthan Royals for not retaining Jos Buttler

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa criticized Rajasthan Royals for letting go of Jos Buttler before the IPL 2025 auction. After Rajasthan lost their third match of the season to Gujarat Titans on April 9, Uthappa questioned their auction choices. He pointed out that losing star players like Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravichandran Ashwin left big gaps in the team.

Rajasthan retained six players, including Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal, but Uthappa noted that without key stars, they might struggle. “If Shimron Hetmyer gets injured, there’s no one to step in. That’s a big problem for them,” Uthappa said on Star Sports.

Shane Watson also weighed in, highlighting the bond between Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler. He found it surprising that Rajasthan didn’t keep Buttler, saying that their chemistry is important for team dynamics.

Buttler had been with Rajasthan since 2018 and played a key role in their 2022 final run, scoring 863 runs in 17 innings. Despite his impact, he wasn’t retained and ended up being sold for Rs 15.75 crore to Gujarat Titans at the auction.
