Rising Star Shoriful Islam’s Injury Raises Concern for Bangladesh ahead of their tournament opener

On June 1, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, during their warm-up match against India, Bangladeshi bowler Shoriful Islam hurt his left hand. His index and middle finger’s webbing separated as a result of the accident, necessitating six stitches.

When he attempted to block Hardik Pandya’s drive on follow-through in the final over of his spell, the left-arm pacer was injured. When the ball struck Shoriful’s bowling hand, he appeared to be in discomfort. Baujedul Islam Khan, the Bangladeshi team’s physiotherapist, helped him off the field. Having bowled statistics of 1/26 in 3.5 overs, he departed the field with a swollen palm. The final ball of the over was bowled by Tanzim Hasan Sakib for Shoriful.

Bangladesh will reportedly need to wait the next two days to find out if Shoriful is available. On June 7, the team will play their first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Sri Lanka.

Shoriful required six stitches for damaged webbing, according to Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, the chief surgeon for the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

In order to be ready for the match against Sri Lanka, Shoriful will have over a week to heal from the injury. Taskin Ahmed is also recuperating from a side injury, so when he is out of the game, Bangladesh will be without their top pacers. Additionally, he had skipped Bangladesh’s three-match series against the United States.
