Rishabh Pant didn’t really seem convincing when he talked about why he came in to bat at number seven during their loss to Delhi Capitals. His team, LSG, managed to put up only 159 runs, and Pant didn’t score at all, coming in at the end with just two balls left. They tried to boost the innings by sending in Abdul Samad, but that backfired as he managed just 2 runs off 8 balls. Pant said they wanted to make the most of the wicket, but it didn’t work out the way they planned. He acknowledged that he needs to figure out the right team setup going forward.
He also mentioned that the toss really affected the game since the team batting second usually gets a better pitch. He felt they were about 20 runs short and noted how the pitch gets better for batting as the game goes on. He wasn’t looking for excuses, though.
It felt like LSG was overcomplicating things by trying to use Mayank Yadav as a substitute for Ayush Badoni, which hasn’t seemed to work out. Pant explained that they want to give Mayank some time on the field since they’re already halfway through the season.
On the other hand, Axar Patel, the DC skipper, was happy with the win, noting that they had control throughout most of the match. He mentioned that while they didn’t take early wickets, they stayed in control, and once they got a couple of quick ones, their momentum shifted.
Axar bowled four overs straight, including three in the Powerplay. He talked about dealing with a slight injury that had kept him from bowling much before, but he felt good today. In batting, he hit four sixes and shared that he always tries to play to his strengths, no matter where he’s batting, which has been working for him.
