Rishabh Pant drops an honest admission after Lucknow’s loss against Punjab Kings

Rishabh Pant, the skipper, accepted that his team fell 20 to 30 runs short after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a tough eight-wicket loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. LSG had a rough time against a strong Punjab team that dominated both with the bat and ball. Pant’s early wicket set the tone for LSG’s struggles, as PBKS executed their game plan well.

LSG batted first but never really found a groove after some early setbacks. Pant and Nicholas Pooran were the key players for LSG, but Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer made a smart move by bringing Glenn Maxwell in early, knowing Pant had trouble against him before. Maxwell made quick work of Pant, leaving LSG in a tight spot.

It wasn’t enough; we were 20-25 runs short. It’s just part of the game. It was our first home match, so we’re still getting used to the conditions. Losing early wickets makes it tough. We can’t control everything, but every player is trying to push the game forward. There are some positives, but I can’t say much more, Pant said after the match.

Pooran and Ayush Badoni teamed up to try and stabilize the innings, putting together a gritty 54-run partnership. Pooran made 44 off 30 balls with five boundaries and a couple of sixes but fell to Yuzvendra Chahal at a crucial moment when he looked like he could do more damage.

With LSG struggling, Badoni took charge and found a good partner in Abdul Samad, whose quick 27 off 12 balls, including three sixes, gave LSG a total of 171/7.

For Punjab, their top order handled the chase with confidence. After losing Priyansh Arya early, Prabhsimran Singh took control and scored an impressive 69 off just 34 balls, taking down the LSG bowlers. Iyer played his role well, keeping things steady while scoring runs. Nehal Wadhera came in as an impact player and made 43 off 25 balls, hitting three boundaries and four sixes, leaving LSG searching for answers.

Pant said, The plan was to prepare a slow pitch because we thought it’d stop a bit here at home. When we bowled slowly, it did stick. We didn’t perform well today, but we’ll learn and get better. There are definitely positives early in the tournament as we’re still figuring things out for the team, and hopefully, it works out well for us.
