Rishabh Pant did not want to be part of this IPL franchise, Check inside

Rishabh Pant, the star wicketkeeper-batter, after being appointed captain of Lucknow Super Giants, said that he was reluctant to be a part of Punjab Kings. Pant was the costliest-ever buy in IPL history when bought for Rs 27 crore by LSG after being released by the Delhi Capitals prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction. Earlier that day, Shreyas Iyer had already been bought by PBKS for Rs 26.75 crore. He claimed Iyer had gone the other way, which was a big relief since Punjab had a larger budget of Rs 110 crore.

“I was only tense about one thing inside, that was Punjab. Their budget is so high that if you want to do anything, you can’t. They had 112 crore, next was 82 crore. I was relieved that Shreyas joined Punjab, so I can join LSG now,” Pant said during an interaction with Star Sports.

However, there was no competition between LSG and RCB as the latter pulled out. Hyderabad then jumped in, hoping their explosive batting could do some good and Delhi made sure to use the Right to Match card but could not match what LSG put for Pant, breaking the bank for him and going beyond Iyer’s value.

The swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter is an all-format for India and a live-wire on the field. While Pant has established himself as a man for the big stage in Test cricket, what can be taken into account is his T20 game.

Even though Pant has the numbers of 1,209 runs from 76 T20Is, with an average of 23.25, a strike rate of just under 128 with barely three fifties in T20s, his overall T20 numbers are far more impressive. Indeed, Pant has made 5,022 runs in 202 T20s at an average of 31.78, a strike rate of just above 145, with two centuries and 25 fifties to boast of.
