The Punjab Kings scored their highest in IPL 2025, with 236 runs against Lucknow Super Giants. Prabhsimran Singh starred, scoring 91; Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh chipped in with 45 and 33, respectively. Josh Inglis took off, smashing 30 in 14 balls after his captain promoted him to the No. 3 slot, as revealed by head coach Ricky Ponting.
“They were expecting a wicket, so we thought we would send Josh in because he’s good against the short ball,” said Ponting. The strategy worked wonders with Inglis hitting four sixes, really setting up the innings.
This allowed Iyer, Wadhera, and Shashank to bat through the middle overs, which was very important in the context of this match-Ponting added. After that, the momentum shifted to their side, having started well from about 70 runs in the powerplay.
Ponting later divulged how he had hoped for one of the openers, either Prabhsimran or Priyansh Arya, to score a hundred, given that both had been doing well earlier in the tournament. Prabhsimran fell just short with 91.
Ponting spoke highly of both in how they can get things started and the fact it works well as a left-right combo. He also indicated that he believed Prabhsimran could grow through these experiences and that he himself was committed to winning for his team; both were evident that night.
