Revealing the Real Reason: Rahul Dravid’s Decision to Turn Down Head Coach Offer

The search for a new head coach for the Indian men’s cricket team has begun, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Although Dravid is still eligible to apply, the board has released advertising for new applications, as Rahul Dravid’s contract is scheduled to end following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in 2024. The former Indian batter, it has been stated, has already made up his mind and is not eager to stay on as captain after the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

According to a Sportstar article, Dravid has already made the decision that he does not want to continue leading the squad beyond this current assignment, hence he will not be reapplying for the position. According to the article, Dravid was really approached by a few team leaders to stay on as the coach of the Indian Test squad for an additional year, but he declined the offer since he was certain that the contract he signed following the 2023 ODI World Cup would be his last.

Despite the fact that the search for a new coach is still ongoing, VVS Laxman’s name has been mentioned frequently. In Dravid’s absence, the former India batter has guided the team on a few previous times as head coach.

However, he is reportedly not the front-runner for the position as permanent head coach. There have been indications that the BCCI is considering a few names from overseas. The head coach position will also take into account candidates from outside the country, as previously indicated by Jay Shah, the board secretary.

The Indian Premier League teams that Stephen Fleming and Ricky Ponting, who are currently coaching the Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, respectively, are leading candidates, according to early indications. An additional foreign coach that toyed with the notion of leading the Indian squad is Justin Langer, who is the coach of the Lucknow Super Giants.
