According to several reliable sources, the Board of Control for cricket in India(BCCI) has finalized the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup. The reports claim that the new chief selector for Indian cricket team, Ajir Agarkar travelled to Sri Lanka and had a conversation with head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma for finalising the players. Sanju Samson has failed to make his place while KL Rahul has bagged the spot in the squad.
The selection committee also talked about the fitness issues of the wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul. The player will very soon fly to Sri Lanka to participate in the tournament. Earlier, a controversy arose when Rahul got into the Asia Cup squad but missed the first two matches for India.
While the official deadline for submitting the squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup is September 5, BCCI decided not to delay the selection process given the good availability of most players. Ajit Agarkar suggested that India’s World Cup squad would be chosen from the group of players who have traveled to Sri Lanka to participate in the 2023 Asia Cup.
In the ICC ODI World Cup, Team India will play its first match against Australia on october 8 at MA Chidambaram stadium.
