Record-Breaking Hundred: Jos Buttler Surpasses Chris Gayle, Holds The 2nd Position In Most Centuries List

England wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler who plays for Rajasthan Royals smashed a century against Kolkata Knight Riders, the match played at Eden Garden on April 16, 2024. He scored 106 runs in 60 balls including nine fours and six sixes.

Buttler reached his century in just 55 deliveries while leading RR in an impressive 224-run chase against KKR. With this achievement, Buttler surpassed Chris Gayle on the all-time list for the most IPL centuries. This is the seventh century for the wicket-keeper in this cash-rich league.

Buttler hit his first T20 century of his career in the IPL in 2021. He then continued his stellar performance with four centuries in the IPL 2022 season, where he scored a total of 863 runs. Earlier this season, Buttler scored his sixth IPL century against the Royal Challengers Bangalore during his 100th IPL appearance, becoming the second player to achieve this milestone after KL Rahul.

Virat Kohli holds the record for the most centuries in the IPL, having scored eight tons. Last season, the 35-year-old Kohli notched up two centuries when he gathered 639 runs in 14 matches.

In the history of the Indian Premier League, there have been a total of 93 centuries scored. It all began in the league’s inaugural match back in 2008 when Brendon McCullum of the Kolkata Knight Riders smashed 158 runs off 73 balls against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium
