India is facing Bangladesh in the last match of the super-4 stage of the Asia Cup. In this match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bangladesh set a target of 266 runs for India and while chasing the target when the Indian batting lineup collapsed, Shubman Gill created a huge world record.
Gill has now joined the elite Indian list of smashing a century at a very young age in Asia Cup 2023. Gill has smashed a century in this tournament at the age of 24 years and seven days. With this, he has surpassed the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has got his century in the Asia Cup at the age of 26 years and 354 days.
The first in this list is former Indian middle-order batter Suresh Raina who has smashed a century in this continental championship at the age of 21 years and 211 days in 2008. The second in this list is legendary Sachin Tendulkar(23y 129d) in 1995 and Virat Kohli(24y 007d) in 2012.
It will definitely give a boost to Shubman Gill who has been picked in India’s ODI World Cup squad and will open the innings with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
India has already entered into the final of the Asia Cup where they will face the defending champions Sri Lanka on September 17 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
