In the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1, Royal Challengers Bengaluru cruised to an 8-wicket win against Punjab Kings. Virat Kohli didn’t make a big impact with the bat, getting out for just 12 runs. Even though they were chasing a low score of 102, Kohli played some risky shots and got out to Kyle Jamieson after hitting 12 off 12 balls.
RCB’s win kept the focus off Kohli’s dismissal, but it sparked chatter about his recent decision to retire from Test cricket. He announced this right before the IPL kicked off, and it came after a tough tour in Australia and a rough time back with Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. His problems with deliveries aimed at the 5th and 6th stumps had really been bothering him in red-ball matches. So, fans linked his way of getting out against Jamieson in this match to his decision to step away from Test cricket entirely. Jamieson had also caused him issues in the 2021 ICC World Test Championship final.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar was thrilled about the victory and praised the bowlers for their work against the Shreyas Iyer-led team.
He said, We were pretty clear on our plans for bowling. The fast bowlers made the most of the pitch. Suyash bowled really well with his lines and lengths. As captain, I want him to focus on targeting the stumps, that’s where he’s strong, and his wrong ‘un is tough for batters to read. I always want him to have clear instructions without any confusion. If he gives away a few runs, that’s okay.
We’ve practiced a lot during this tournament, so missing a day won’t hurt. I’m really impressed with how Salt has been batting, especially how he gets us good starts.
