The Royal Challengers Bengaluru achieved their second Women’s Premier League title through a six-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals at Vadodara because Smriti Mandhana demonstrated complete dominance. The RCB captain Mandhana scored 87 runs from 41 balls while Georgia Voll hit 79 runs from 54 balls which created a 165-run partnership that helped their team achieve a historic championship victory.
Chinelle Henry scored 35 runs from 15 balls while Delhi captain Jemimah Rodrigues hit a brilliant half-century which helped DC reach 203 runs with four wickets remaining.
Laura Wolvaardt (44 not out off 25) and Lizelle Lee (37 off 30) also scored briskly after DC were put in to bat. Rodrigues top-scored with 57 off 37 balls.
RCB achieved their record chase victory against Delhi with two balls remaining which established them as WPL’s top teams alongside Mumbai Indians. The WPL record for the highest successful chase in both WPL and Indian Premier League finals has been set by this achievement.
The RCB team faced difficulties because they lost Grace Harris (9) to early dismissal but Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll sustained their chances through effective scoring which maintained their required run rate.
Both Mandhana and Voll drove anything pitched up with ease and pulled and cut the short balls with authority as RCB reached exactly 100 at the halfway mark which required them to score 104 runs from the remaining 60 balls.
Mandhana hit two sixes before reaching her fifty in 23 balls because she hit a perfect boundary off Sneh Rana.
Voll displayed her full abilities by hitting every ball which entered her hitting zone.
Mandhana’s two boundary hits against Shree Charani sent RCB to 150 runs during their 14th over which resulted in a match score of 54 runs from 36 balls.
The two players maintained their control until Voll’s wicket gave her away to Minnu Mani which brought DC new optimism. RCB demonstrated their mental strength which enabled them to win the match.
The Royal Challengers performed well during their first three overs when Lauren Bell and Sayali Satghare restricted Shafali Verma and Lee to scoring only nine runs because the batters failed to find enough space for proper swinging.
Lee hit two sixes which he launched from a half-volley and a half-tracker after Satghare bowled the fourth over which removed the game pressure from him.
Richa Ghosh managed to complete a stumping attempt followed by Satghare missing a difficult caught-and-bowled opportunity which created an exciting over that delivered 20 runs to the Capitals after their slow beginning.
DC reached 36 runs after five overs when skipper Smriti Mandhana brought Arundhati Reddy to bowl but Shafali hit two fours right away. Reddy successfully eliminated Shafali from the game because she had touched a short ball which Ghosh expertly caught behind the stumps.
The elegant Laura Wolvaardt started her innings with a beautiful boundary but Lee struck two boundaries and a six off-spinner Shreyanka Patil during her bowling debut which brought DC to 72 runs for one wicket after seven overs.
Nadine de Klerk ended Lee’s dangerous inning when the batter hit a high ball which Grace Harris caught after running in from long-on.
Rodrigues and Wolvaardt batted together to create multiple scoring opportunities through their elegant batting style which allowed them to build a 76-run partnership against RCB.
