This series kicks off the ICC World Test Championship cycle with a new captain, Shubman Gill, taking over after big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from Test cricket.
As fans gear up for the England tour, Sony Sports Network is reminding everyone of India’s notable achievements on English soil with a three-part docuseries titled Bharat Tum Chale Chalo – Kahani 2021-22 Ki. This series looks back at India’s impressive 2021-22 Test campaign in England, where they were leading 2-1 under Virat’s captaincy before COVID-19 pushed the final Test to July 2022, after Virat had stepped down as captain. India eventually drew the series 2-2 after losing that last Test under Jasprit Bumrah’s leadership.
The first episode of the series will air on Sunday, June 15, across several Sony Sports channels and will be available for streaming on Sony LIV. Shastri spoke about his time with the team, which had some memorable wins in England, Australia, and South Africa, including two back-to-back series victories in Australia with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane leading the way. He remarked that the team had guts and fire, and they truly made an impact during their games. He added that this series shows the hard work and emotions behind their journey – a story every Indian cricket fan would want to revisit.
During Virat’s captaincy from 2014 to 2022, India won 40 out of 68 Tests, making him one of the country’s most effective Test captains. After Virat left the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour in late 2020 for the birth of his first child, Rahane took over. He led a young, injury-hit team to a 2-1 series victory against Australia, including a historic win at The Gabba, where Australia hadn’t lost a Test in over 30 years.
In the series against England in 2021, Virat famously told his team during a meeting before defending 272 runs, For 60 overs, they should feel hell out there. The team followed through, bowling out England for just 120 runs, clinching the win. While India had a solid run at home under Rohit Sharma, they faced a rough patch last year with a whitewash by New Zealand and a 1-3 loss to Australia, which knocked them out of the WTC finals.
Now, under Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir, India is set to make a fresh start. The series will take place from June to August 2025, with matches lined up at Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, The Oval, and Old Trafford.
