The Indian cricket team is gearing up for the World Test Championship 2025-27, starting with a five-match Test series against England on June 20. Unfortunately, they’ll be without big hitters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as both have decided to retire from Test cricket ahead of this series.
With a new Test captain expected to step in, many fans think Shubman Gill should take the reins. While there’s a lot of support for him as the next leader, some have raised concerns about his performance abroad, where he averages 29.5 runs in 13 away Tests and has just one century to his name.
Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri has come out in support of Gill, saying, “He’s got a lot of promise. Everyone talks about his overseas record, but let him play and prove himself. He’s a class player.”
With this upcoming tour of England, Gill will face a tough challenge, especially if he’s named the captain. There will be high hopes from fans as the team looks to kick off the new WTC cycle on a strong note.
