Rajeev Shukla set to be appointed as the new president of BCCI

Rajeev Shukla, the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will step in as the acting President once Roger Binny’s term wraps up, as per sources. Shukla’s acting role will last for three months starting in July. With the Annual General Meeting (AGM) set for September, it sounds like he might run for the full-time president position.

Binny, who took over from Sourav Ganguly, has been BCCI President since 2022. He was the only one to submit a nomination for the post. Under his leadership, India grabbed two white-ball titles, the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. He also started the Women’s Premier League (WPL), a league for women’s cricket similar to the successful IPL. Binny focused on strengthening domestic cricket by improving pay and encouraging senior players to take part in domestic events.

As a player, Binny was a bowling all-rounder, appearing in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs. He took 47 wickets in Tests and scored 830 runs with five half-centuries. In ODIs, he claimed 77 wickets and scored 629 runs with one half-century. Notably, he was the top wicket-taker for India in the 1983 World Cup with 18 wickets, playing a key role in India’s historic win.

Rajeev Shukla, a Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha, has also held the position of IPL chairman. C K Khanna had acted as BCCI president from 2017 to 2019 during a period when the board was overseen by a Supreme Court-appointed committee. Before becoming the president of BCCI, Binny was the head of the Karnataka State Cricket Association. He’s remembered as one of the greats of cricket, being part of that iconic 1983 World Cup team led by Kapil Dev. Later on, he also coached the India Under-19 team that won the ICC World Cup in 2000.
