Rajat Patidar, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was clearly frustrated after watching his team throw away their wickets during what seemed like an easy match. He expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance after they suffered a six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals on Thursday. Patidar didn’t hold back, labeling the way his team batted as not acceptable. It was a tough pill to swallow as Delhi Capitals, led by steady performances from spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam and a solid 93 not out from KL Rahul, managed to secure their victory with 13 balls to spare.
The game started on a high note for RCB, with Phil Salt smashing the Delhi bowlers around the park during the powerplay. At one point, they raced to 61 runs for just one wicket in the fourth over. However, things quickly fell apart as they slumped to 91 for four. Just like that, the momentum shifted, and they could only post a modest total of 163 for seven. Patidar commented on the sudden drop in their performance, saying that while the batters had the right mindset, the sharp decline from 60 for one to 90 for four was beyond what they should accept.
He talked about how they underestimated the pitch conditions and situation, causing them to falter at a crucial moment. Tim David did manage to score a quick 37 runs towards the end of the innings, but Patidar felt it was too little too late. He acknowledged David’s effort, describing it as impressive, especially after the fast bowlers had done their job well by putting Delhi in a tricky position at 30 for three.
KL Rahul, who was named Player of the Match, shared how being behind the stumps helped him get a feel for the pitch. He said it was a challenging wicket, but he was able to watch how the ball behaved for the 20 overs he kept wickets. Rahul noted that while the ball was consistent, it did take some getting used to. He went in with a plan, knowing which shots would work and how he could score based on where the other batters struggled.
He mentioned his familiarity with M Chinnaswamy Stadium as a huge advantage. Since it’s his home ground, he has a good understanding of its quirks. He always tries to adapt to different pitches by practicing beforehand, even if it means getting out a few times. This experimentation helps him pinpoint where he can maximize runs, whether through singles or sixes.
On the other side, Delhi Capitals’ captain Axar Patel was riding high after leading his team to four wins. He expressed how winning these matches boosted the team’s confidence. He pointed out that they discussed match-ups and strategies based on how the pitch was behaving. Knowing that RCB batters preferred facing pacers, he made tactical decisions to hold them back while also planing to bowl spin when the conditions shifted to favor it.
Axar praised Rahul’s performance, describing him as a mature player who stepped up in critical moments. He mentioned that having someone like Rahul in the team simplifies things for him since he knows exactly how to handle pressure situations. Although Axar was frustrated with his own dismissal, he recognized that Rahul played a smart innings and was performing consistently well, continuing his form from previous tournaments.
