The Rajasthan Royals (RR) team is said to have joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team in the list of IPL teams that might be sold soon. Just recently, the speculation over RCB which was the 2025 IPL winning team, might get sold before the 2026 season, had surfaced.
According to businessman Harsh Goenka who is the brother of Sanjiv Goenka the owner of Lucknow Super Giants, the 2008 champions have also expressed a desire to find new owners.
Harsh Goenka confirms RR are looking for new owners
On the previous day, Harsh Goenka made a revelation on X Platform stating that two IPL teams, RCB and RR are for sale. He added that the present owners are eager to cash in on the high valuations of the teams.
“I hear, not one, but two IPL teams are now up for sale- RCB and RR. It seems clear that people want to cash in the rich valuations today. So two teams for sale and 4/5 possible buyers! Who will be the successful buyers- will it be from Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru or USA?”
The franchise of the Royals is primarily owned by the Royals Sports Group holding 65% percentage. Other known minority investors are Lachlan Murdoch and RedBird Capital Partners.
There are already some reports suggesting that the conflict with the Rajasthan Cricket Association might lead the RR to move their home matches out of Jaipur and it seems Pune is the only venue that could be used for IPL 2026.
On the other hand, the ownership of RCB has been making headlines for months. On November 5, the world’s biggest beverage company Diageo announced that it has initiated the team selling process.
Before this, businessman Adar Poonawala had hinted on X that RCB might be priced for sale. Poonawalla, the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, belongs to a family whose net worth is over $20 billion as per Forbes.
Diageo disclosed in its stock exchange filing that the divestment is being done under SEBI rules and will likely be finished by March 31, 2026.
Poonawalla-led consortium along with Kamath and Pai may place a bid for RCB according to the news. The net worth of Pai is said to be around $2.8 billion and that of Kamath around $2.5 billion.
RCB was worth a little more than a billion dollars in 2022 but their historic IPL title victory in 2025 would probably raise their valuation beyond that considerably. It was conveyed by Cricbuzz that Diageo might be looking for nearly $2 billion for the team, a figure that has divided opinions amongst the investors
