A month has passed since India won the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa in the championship game. This victory brought relief to Indians who had been disappointed by their team’s lack of success in International Cricket Council events for over ten years. After claiming the title, the Indian team’s return to home was postponed for a few days because of a hurricane in Barbados. When they finally took a flight, it was closely watched by many. The 16-hour journey included not only the Indian players but also some journalists who were stranded on the island.
New information about the flight back has come to light, indicating that none of the players managed to sleep for more than 6 hours. In fact, head coach Rahul Dravid, who was very tired and needed rest, had to sleep in the economy class section of the plane.
“During the flight from Barbados to Delhi, it seems that very few people managed to sleep for more than six hours, which was probably the longest anyone slept. The atmosphere was never calm; everyone was moving around and socializing. Cricket players met with journalists and a few other people. The Star Sports engineers were also on board because their original flight was canceled, and they were placed on this one. There was a lot of chatting and interaction. Rohit Sharma visited several times. I heard that at one point, Rahul Dravid even came from the business class to the economy section to check if there was a four-seat area where he could sleep for a while,” a producer explained, according to Hindustan Times.
The report also mentioned that Rohit, known for his playful nature, was teasing someone during the flight.
“I recall being asleep when I suddenly heard Rohit teasing someone. I looked over and saw him standing there. But Rohit, in his usual way, was just joking around. Later, Hardik and Rishabh joined in, and they all started talking to the media. There was definitely a lot of conversation going on.”
