R Ashwin wants Jasprit Bumrah to feature in this test match for India

India’s tour of England has gotten off to a bit of a mixed start. The team’s batters managed to score five centuries, and Jasprit Bumrah had a standout performance with five wickets. Still, they lost the first match in Leeds. There were some great individual showings, but in the end, the team didn’t get the win. They made quite a few mistakes, too. Shubman Gill had a strong debut as captain, but people questioned his tactics on the field. The fielding was poor, with eight catches dropped. While Bumrah led the bowling attack, he didn’t get much backing from his teammates. He bowled nearly 45 overs in the match, the second most by any Indian bowler, which really shows how much the team relies on him.

With Bumrah being 31 and set to play in three of the five Tests on this tour, there’s talk about whether he should sit out the second Test in Edgbaston to manage his workload. But Ravichandran Ashwin thinks they should keep him in the lineup, especially since India is already down 0-1 in the series. He said he wouldn’t make too many changes after a good performance. “I would ask Bumrah to play the second Test and try to level the series; he can rest later, Ashwin mentioned on his YouTube channel. He suggested only bringing Kuldeep Yadav in and not making any other adjustments.

With Shardul Thakur not performing well with the bat and only taking two wickets late in the match, some former players think they should drop him for Nitish Reddy, who did well during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. “Nitish had a solid time in Australia and did okay in the IPL. But he didn’t play in the top order; he batted lower down. Would you really put him in as a top six batter in England? I wouldn’t. Making too many changes sends the wrong message. The batting was decent in the first Test, so I’d keep it as is and just change one bowler.”
