R Ashwin gets fined for his act in the recent TNPL match

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined 30% of his match fee for arguing with an umpire’s call during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match between Dindigul Dragons and Tiruppur Tamizhans on June 8 in Coimbatore. Ashwin wasn’t pleased with umpire Kritika’s decision when she ruled him lbw to left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore, even though it seemed like the ball pitched outside leg stump.

As the captain of the Dindigul Dragons, Ashwin opened the innings but got out while trying to sweep Sai Kishore. The ball hit his pads, leading to a loud appeal from the fielding side and the umpire raising her finger. He didn’t have a review left since he’d already used them on previous wide calls.

Frustrated, Ashwin walked off and was seen hitting his bat on his pads in anger before tossing his gloves aside. After the match, a hearing was held by the match referee. Ashwin got a 10% fine for arguing with the umpires and another 20% for misusing his equipment, which he accepted, according to a TNPL official.

Ashwin’s dismissal came in the fifth over and was a turning point in the game, leading to the Dragons collapsing for just 93 runs. He scored 18 runs off 11 balls, with two fours and a six, before the team lost nine wickets for only 54 runs. The Tamizhans easily chased down the low target of 94 runs with nine wickets in hand and 49 balls to spare. The Dragons are currently in fifth place in the points table, having won one match and lost another in this TNPL season.
