India’s journey in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has started on a rough path for Rohit Sharma and his boys. Drawn in Group A with Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, Team India needs to finish among the second or top two sides to secure their passage to the semi-finals. “No one team can be underestimated in the tournament,” retired India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared some of his views as he rated the four teams in Group A of the Champions Trophy.
The left-arm pacer’s absence leaves a void for Arshdeep Singh, who will be playing in Bumrah’s absence. “I would give them an 85. I would give India a 90 had Bumrah been there because India is a totally different game with him in it. The only concern for me for India is that all their games are in Dubai. Let’s say I lose all the tosses, and we have to bat first because it’s daylight and night in this place. So if the opponents bat under lights, this 85 might start dropping,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Given the other two sides—Pakistan and Bangladesh—Ashwin rated them only a 55 and 40, respectively.
We know how brilliant he has been in T20 cricket and, if you look at the skill set, he probably provides similar skills to Bumrah with the new ball and in the death overs, which is what India will miss out on.
That by no means takes away anything from Harshit Rana, because I think he has got a lot of talent, and we know what he can do with the new ball, but I do not think his death skills match those of Arshdeep Singh.
The former Australian captain feels that the presence of a left-arm fast bowler in the playing eleven has always been very important.
