One of the infamous IPL franchises, Punjab Kings have sacked its head coach Anil Kumble. The former spinner joined Punjab in the year 2020 and he was associated with the team for 3 years but due to regular failure, Punjab Kings management has decided to replace Anil Kumble with a new face.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the decision to leave Kumble is mutually taken by the board members of the team including the Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, industrialists Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Karan Paul, and Kings’ chief executive officer Satish Menon.
The performance of Punjab Kings under the coaching of Anil Kumble was not so impressive. In 2020 and 2021, Punjab Kings were stuck at no.5 on the points table when there was an eights team in this cash-rich league. In 2022, when the number of teams increased from eight to ten, Punjab Kings finished at no. 6.
Before becoming the head coach of Punjab Kings, Kumble served Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. He also headed team India in 2016 before Ravi Shastri took the charge from him.
Also, the news is circulating about the Punjab Kings willing to replace captain Mayank Agarwal as well. However, Punjab Kings managed to clear the air with a statement that reads, “News reports published by a certain sports News website pertaining to the captaincy of the Punjab Kings franchise have been making the rounds in the last few days. We would like to state that no official of the team has issued any statement on the same.”
